Abstract:
There is a wide range of legacy and current data which is being stored as files, often using an implicit format which is defined in the application, rather than the file itself. The Data Format Description Language (DFDL) is an attempt to allow these files to be explicitly defined using XML tags, without converting the file to XML. This then allows you to flexibly query the contents of the files.
In this project, based on a subset of DFDL, the aim is develop and evaluate extensions to the OGSA-DAI data service framework for generating streams of tuples in the OGSA-DAI standard form from a set of files. This read-only extraction is to be guided by an XQuery-like query and the production of a mapping language from a supplied set of files.
