Abstract:
OGSA-DAI provides a means of accessing data using Web Service mechanisms. However, unlike your standard Web Service approach which normally has an embedded static piece of functionality, OGSA-DAI supports an internal workflow engine, providing a degree of versatility in the tasks that can be carried out by the service. In comparisons to other Web Service approaches OGSA-DAI introduces additional complexity and overheads but on the whole it is believed that this approach on the whole presents a very useful optimisation - for instance you can perform various tasks in one go that would require multiple interactions with different web service. This project will investigate and quantify whether this optimisation is really there and whether it works across a range of scenarios. If time permits it would also be interesting to compare OGSA-DAI's approach with more traditional external workflow engine approaches on a number of scenarios. This project would probably focus more on experiment design and execution than software development.
