Abstract:

The emergence of new tools (such as Introduce) which facilitate the building of generic grid services has led to a new wave of eScience users to examine the suitablity of grid computing for their projects. In this project, we seek to explore and evaluate the visual-programming techniques for building web services to OGSA-DAI data services, activities, and data-extraction workflows.

Initially, the aim would be to allow data services to be designed and configured graphically. Following from that, it should be possible to extend this work to develop activities based on standard patterns, provide interfaces to automatically generate visual "building blocks" based on existing activitiesm, and develop visual structures that link these activities together into data workflows. This would then allow common eScience data patterns to be built and expressed using a visual tool.
